Privacy policy
How we collect, use and look after your personal information when you contact Odin Electric.
Last updated: [date to be confirmed]
This policy explains how Odin Electric (ABN 50 827 585 797) ("we", "us", "our") handles personal information we collect through this website, by phone, text and email, and when we carry out electrical work.
Our approach to privacy
Under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), many small businesses with an annual turnover of $3 million or less are not required to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Even if that applies to us, we choose to follow the APPs as a guide to good practice, because we think you should know how your information is handled.
What we collect
We only collect what we need to respond to your enquiry and do the job. This may include:
- your name, phone number and email address
- your suburb and, if you book a job, the property address
- details about the work you need, including any photos you send us
- your preferred contact time
- for rental properties, contact details for the tenant, landlord or property manager so we can arrange access
- billing and payment records for work we carry out
We don't ask for sensitive information such as health details, and you don't need to provide it.
How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you fill in our quote form, call, text or email us, or when we're working at your property. Sometimes a property manager or landlord gives us a tenant's contact details so we can arrange access.
Our website uses Google Analytics and Google Ads, which set cookies to collect basic technical information automatically, such as your browser type, the pages you visit and whether you arrived from an ad or a search. We use this to understand how the site is used and which advertising works. When you send the quote form, we also note how you found the site (for example, a Google search or an ad). You can block these cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
How we use it
We use your personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and prepare a quote
- schedule and carry out electrical work
- issue Certificates of Compliance and other records we're required to keep
- send invoices and receive payment
- follow up on work we've done, for example if you've asked us to come back
We won't send you marketing messages unless you've asked us to, and we don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Who we share it with
We only share your information when we need to, for example with:
- regulators and authorities where the law requires it, such as when lodging Certificates of Compliance
- SA Power Networks or your electricity retailer when work involves your connection or meter
- service providers who help us run the business, such as our website and form host, email provider, and accounting or payment software
- your property manager or landlord, if they arranged the work
Some of these providers may store data on servers outside Australia. We choose reputable providers and only give them what they need.
How we protect it
We take reasonable steps to keep your information secure, including using password-protected accounts and devices. We keep records only for as long as we need them for the job or as required by law (for example, tax and electrical compliance records), then delete or destroy them securely.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, at any time. Just get in touch using the details below. We'll respond within a reasonable time and won't charge you for making a request.
