Urgent electrical repairs in Adelaide.
Lost power, a tripping safety switch or a hot switch? Call and we'll tell you if it's safe to wait.
What to do right now
If there is a fire, or someone has had an electric shock, call 000 immediately. Do not touch a person who may still be in contact with electricity. Turn the power off at the main switch first, if you can do so safely.
While you wait
- If it's safe, turn off the main switch at your switchboard.
- Keep everyone, especially children and pets, away from damaged wiring, sparking outlets or anything that smells hot.
- Don't touch switches or appliances with wet hands, and keep clear of water near electrical equipment.
- Unplug the appliance you think caused the problem, but only if the plug and outlet aren't damaged or hot.
- Don't keep resetting a safety switch that trips straight away. It's tripping for a reason.
Signs you need an electrician quickly
Some electrical problems can wait a day or two. Others shouldn't be left. Call us promptly if you notice any of these:
- A burning smell, smoke, or scorch marks around a power point, switch or light.
- Sparking or buzzing from an outlet, switch or the switchboard.
- A safety switch or breaker that trips repeatedly or won't reset.
- Partial or total loss of power to your property when the street still has power.
- Outlets, switches or cords that are warm or hot to touch.
- Exposed or damaged wiring after a storm, a leak, renovation work or rodents in the roof.
- A tingle or mild shock from a tap, appliance or metal fixture.
Getting your power back safely
Call and describe it
Ring 0404 844 144. Tell us what happened, what's affected and whether anything has tripped. A photo of the switchboard helps.
Honest timing
We'll tell you when we can get there. If we can't reach you in time, we'll say so, so you can arrange help elsewhere.
Find and fix the fault
We locate the cause, make the installation safe and repair it, or explain what's needed if parts must be ordered.
Tested and documented
Repairs are tested before we leave, with a Certificate of Compliance for prescribed electrical work.

Lost power, a safety switch that won't stay on, or a switch that's hot to touch? Call Odin Electric on 0404 844 144 and describe what's happening. We'll tell you straight away whether it's safe to wait and when we can get to you.
Fallen powerlines
Stay well clear (at least 8 metres) and keep others away. Treat every fallen line as live. Call 000 if there's immediate danger, and report it to SA Power Networks, who look after the poles and wires.
Is it just you, or the whole street?
If your neighbours have lost power too, or streetlights are out, it's most likely a network outage. Check SA Power Networks' outage information; an electrician can't fix faults on the street network. If only your property is affected, the fault is probably in your installation, and that's where we can help.
Signs you need an electrician quickly
If you're unsure, call and describe what you can see, hear or smell. We'll give you honest advice on whether to switch off, what's safe to use in the meantime, and how soon it needs attention.
Frequently asked questions
Are you a 24/7 emergency electrician?
Please call 0404 844 144 to check current availability. If we can't attend quickly enough for your situation, we'll tell you straight away so you can get help elsewhere. If there's a fire or someone has had a shock, call 000 first.
My safety switch keeps tripping. What should I do?
A safety switch (RCD) trips when it detects current leaking to earth, which often points to a faulty appliance or damaged wiring. Try unplugging everything on that circuit and resetting it. If it holds, plug appliances back in one at a time to find the culprit.
If it trips with everything unplugged, or trips straight away, leave it off and call us. Don't bypass or tape down a safety switch.
Half my house has no power but the rest is fine. Is that urgent?
It depends. Check your switchboard for a tripped breaker or safety switch first. If nothing has tripped, or it won't reset, there may be a fault in the wiring or at the switchboard, and it should be looked at promptly, particularly if the fridge, medical equipment or security systems are affected.
How do I know if an outage is SA Power Networks or my house?
Look outside. If neighbours and streetlights are out too, it's likely a network outage, so check SA Power Networks' outage information. If only your property is affected, the problem is most likely in your installation and a licensed electrician can help.
There's a burning smell but I can't see anything. Should I worry?
Yes, take it seriously. Turn off the main switch if it's safe to do so, and call us. If you see smoke or flames, get everyone out and call 000.
What should I do in an electrical emergency?
If there is a fire, or someone has had an electric shock, call 000 immediately. Don't touch a person who may still be in contact with electricity. If it's safe to do so, switch off the main switch at your switchboard. If the whole street has lost power, contact SA Power Networks on 13 13 66. For faults inside your property, call us on 0404 844 144.
What are the warning signs of an electrical problem?
Call an electrician if you notice a burning smell, scorch marks or discolouration on outlets or switches, power points or switches that feel warm, buzzing or crackling sounds, lights that flicker or dim for no obvious reason, or a safety switch or breaker that keeps tripping. Stop using the affected outlet or appliance until it's been checked.
